A GRACE-FUL RAINY MONDAY TRACK
HERE'S A VIDEO FROM GRACE JONES NEW ALBUM HURRICANE. VERY GOOD FOR A RAINY DAY IN AUSTIN.
Following her triumphant show at Massive Attack's Meltdown last month, Grace Jones is to release a new album, Hurricane, through Wall of Sound in October. Click play to watch the mind-bending video for new song 'Corporate Cannibal', directed by Nick Hooker.
Hurricane was produced by Ivor Guest, and apparently features contributions from Brian Eno, Sly & Robbie, Robert Logan, Tricky, Tony Allen and many more.
Jones headlines this year's Secret Garden Party festival, at a secret East Anglia location, July 24th-27th.

FINALLY GOT MY COPY THIS IS F#$!!ING AWESOME!!! The Stephen Sprouse Book by Mauricio Padilha, Tama (FRW) Janowitz in Books
As a product of the 70s i came of age in the excess of the 80s looking forward each month to the next andy warhol's interview magazine, & steven saban's column in Detail's magazine.(when details was a new york nightlife staple, before it went south & turned into a terrible men's magazine in the 90's. anyway, i covented those magazines with images of club kids, rupaul pre supermodel, robert longo, basquiat, andy, & '84 fashion sensation stephen sprouse. i look @ those images from back then & i'm still blown the f@#4 away. so when i first read a preview a few months ago in sportwear international magazine i just couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy well i finally got it, & it's freakin' awesome. if you are a fan of fashion grab this book. i've included the amazon description to, so check it out!!!
The Stephen Sprouse Book by Mauricio Padilha, Tama (FRW) Janowitz in Books
y Mauricio Padilha, Tama (FRW) Janowitz - Rizzoli International Publications, Incorporated (2009) - Hardback - 224 pages - ISBN 0847832163
Inventive, enigmatic, and supremely creative, Stephen Sprouse made art and clothing that captured the mood of the eighties. One of the first American designers to mix graffiti and a punk aesthetic with fashion, Sprouse manipulated conventional notions of style, and his unique sensibility has inspired designers from John Galliano to Raf Simmons to Marc Jacobs. Sprouse’s career started in the late seventies, when, after working for Halston, he migrated to a warehouse on the Bowery and started making outfits for his neighbor, Debbie Harry. The fashion world quickly embraced his innovative, culturally relevant sensibility and downtown edge. But Sprouse’s inability to compromise his artistic vision for the rigid fashion business compromised his commercial success. The Padilhas possess the largest private collection of Sprouse’s work, and were given exclusive access to his archives by his family for this project. They also obtained never-before-published images from photographers such as Steven Meisel, Bob Gruen, and Mert and Marcus. The book features a foreword by the novelist Tama Janowitz, one of Sprouse’s closest friends. The release of this book coincides with a retrospective at Deitch Projects. The book will be available with four different jackets, each featuring a different Day-Glo color, an homage to Sprouse’s iconic album cover for Debbie Harry’s Rockbird.

BECCA'S BUGS...: or Once Upon A Time @ A Shop Called Gomi...
We had this young woman come in looking for a job, who had just moved to Austin from NYC. We hired her, she's was a very good employee, but alas all good things must end. The reason she came to Austin in the first place...ended abruptly & she returned to New York. But while she worked for us she had the most curious habit of receiving small packages in the mail. fairly consistantly, they would arrive, she would get very excited, & then it would be back to work as usual. Little did we know what lurked in those tiny packages...well. NOW WE KNOW!!!
THIS MONTH IN THE NEW TOKION...

Here's Her Pictures & Mission Statement
http://www.hitchcocksatterlee.com/monsters.html
I use the idea of monstrosity as a different way to approach dialectic ways of thinking. Instead of reducing elements into a polarized opposition, I attempt to incorporate both sides of conflict. By drawing these discordant elements into close proximity with each other, relationships are forced between things which otherwise could be seen as absolutely oppositional. These relationships are the creation of something new, something that is neither inside nor outside of the dialectic; I engage with both sides of an argument simultaneously without synthesizing them into a third. I call this monstrosity and not amalgamation deliberately. Monsters are scary, things to avoid. Similarly, this state of being in constantly shifting and unresolved conflict is not comfortable. I aim to address this uneasy feeling by highlighting it and forcing the matter. Perhaps through prolonged exposure comes comfort.
There are three methodologies I use to explore the monstrous: the narrative, the formal, and networks. Narrative lends itself to the monstrous through character development and its temporal aspects. I can create a conqueror that never wins and the underdog that doesn’t lose. These characters who are not acting in total accordance with their characteristics allow for relationships to form which maintain long enough to pull in many directions without a clear resolution. Using form is effective in a different way and is more visceral. Within the frequent reaction of disgust or fear of monsters there is also an intrigue of the exotic. I balance the disgusting with the beautiful and the alien with the familiar in order to instill in the audience a feeling of simultaneous interest and aversion. Finally, I use diagrammatic language to illustrate networks of relationships; these diagrams shift the focus from things which are compared to the qualities of their associations.
